Marriage Is Free Slavery, I’ll Never Get Married – Mzbel

Ghanaian musician Belinda Ekuah Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, has opened up about her views on marriage, revealing why she has no intention of getting married.

Speaking in an interview with Zionfelix and monitored by ibynews.com on June 4, 2026, the singer said she does not see any benefits in marriage and believes the institution comes with expectations she is unwilling to accept.

According to Mzbel, some of the traditional responsibilities often expected of wives make marriage feel like modern-day slavery.

“I refuse to be that kind of woman. A man must be mad if he expects me to sweep, serve him breakfast, and clean for him. Doesn’t he have a mother? Your mother is supposed to take care of you, so if you are no longer with her, then you have to take care of yourself.

“That’s why marriage is not for me because I cannot do marriage. I see it as free slavery,” she said.

The singer also stated that she would not encourage young women to rush into marriage because of her personal views about the institution.

“I won’t encourage young ladies to get married because I see it as free slavery. As for me, I will never get married. I am my own boss. I am both the father and the mother. I can be in a relationship, alright, but the moment a man asks me to do those chores, it’s over between us,” she added.

Mzbel explained that she values her independence and prefers relationships that do not place traditional domestic expectations on her.

Her comments have since sparked conversations on social media, with some people agreeing with her views while others defended marriage and traditional family roles.

The outspoken musician has often shared her opinions on social and relationship issues, making her one of Ghana’s most discussed entertainment personalities.
