Former presidential spokesperson, Laolu Akande, has called on Nigeria’s political leadership, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to stop treating the country’s security challenges as routine occurrences and instead respond with greater urgency and commitment.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Akande expressed concern over the growing normalization of insecurity across the country.

He argued that repeated incidents of violence, kidnappings, and attacks should never be viewed as ordinary events, regardless of how frequently they occur.

In his remarks, Akande stated, “Our political leaders including the president can not continue to behave as if this is a normal thing, and those of us citizens can not also behave as if this is also normal.”
