BREAKING: I Was Charged For Robbery And I Spent 10 Years In The Prison; I Came Out 40 Years Ago – Bishop Kayode

Bishop Kayode Williams, a cleric and prison affairs analyst, has renewed calls for comprehensive reforms in Nigeria’s correctional system, stressing the need to upgrade correctional centres and strengthen the protection of inmates rights.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, on Thursday, 4 June, 2026, Williams argued that meaningful rehabilitation and humane treatment of inmates should be at the heart of the country’s correctional policies. He maintained that correctional facilities must be equipped to reform offenders and prepare them for productive lives after their release.

Drawing from his personal experience within the prison system, the cleric said his advocacy is rooted in decades of firsthand knowledge of how correctional institutions operate and the challenges inmates face. According to him, his background gives him a unique perspective on what is required to improve the system and achieve genuine rehabilitation.

“I was charged for robbery and I spent 10 years in the prison, and I came out 40 years ago. I know everything that concerns reformation in the prison. That is my area,” Williams said.
