Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory on Public Communications and New Media, has criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over his call for an international investigation into the kidnapping of school pupils and teachers in the state.

In a post shared on his X handle on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Olayinka accused the governor of playing politics with the incident instead of taking responsibility.

His remarks came after Makinde, during a statewide broadcast on Monday, July 13, 2026, urged the United Nations to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction and subsequent rescue of the victims from Oriire Local Government Area.Favor And Life Battles? The governor said the incident was serious enough to require an independent international inquiry to ensure transparency and accountability.

Reacting to the governor’s position, Olayinka argued that while the pupils and teachers were still in captivity, Makinde held a political rally and publicly declared his presidential ambition at Iwo Road and Bodija.

He wrote, “School Pupils and Teachers were kidnapped in your state. Three days after, you organised a Political Campaign Rally. You held public declaration of your Iwo Road and Bodija Presidential ambition.”

He also alleged that the governor made time to receive a controversial political figure and his supporters while the victims remained in the hands of their abductors.

Olayinka further claimed that on the day the victims were rescued, Makinde was in Bauchi attending a political meeting rather than being in Oyo State.

He questioned why the governor did not call on the United Nations to help secure the release of the victims while they were still being held by bandits.

Olayinka ended his criticism by describing Makinde as confused and saying he needed urgent help.
