As reported by The Cable of Israel on July 14, 2026, the Senate has asked Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, to withdraw his demand for a United Nations (UN)-led investigation into the abduction and subsequent rescue of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso.

The decision came after the Senate adopted a prayer moved by Adams Oshiomhole, the senator representing Edo North, during debate on a motion that commended President Bola Tinubu, the Armed Forces, and other security agencies for their roles in securing the release of the victims.

The motion acknowledged the efforts of the security agencies, whose coordinated operations led to the rescue of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers after they had spent 56 days in captivity.

Lawmakers maintained that the successful rescue operation reflected the commitment of Nigeria’s security institutions and urged continued support for ongoing efforts to address insecurity across the country.

They also resolved that Governor Makinde should withdraw his call for a UN-led probe into the Ogbomoso school abduction, reaffirming the Senate’s position following the adoption of the resolution during the debate.
