Why I Signed David Mark’s C-of-O For ADC Duty – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu serves all Nigerians without regard to political affiliation.

Wike made the remarks on Thursday during the commissioning of the interchange at the Arterial Road N16–Ring Road III Intersection, a major infrastructure project connecting the Jahi and Gwarimpa districts of the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking at the event, the former Rivers State governor emphasized that the Tinubu administration remains committed to fairness and inclusiveness in governance, regardless of whether individuals belong to the ruling party or the opposition.

As an example, Wike disclosed that he recently approved and signed a Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) for the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark.

According to the minister, the approval was granted to enable Mark effectively carry out his activities, stressing that government services should not be denied on the basis of political differences.

“We don’t discriminate,” Wike said. “It doesn’t matter whether you belong to the President’s political party or not. The President is serving all Nigerians.”

The minister also used the occasion to criticize Mark’s tenure as Senate President, arguing that the Federal Capital Territory witnessed little infrastructure commissioning during the eight years he presided over the National Assembly.

Drawing a comparison with the current administration, Wike praised Tinubu’s record on infrastructure development, claiming that the President had commissioned more projects within a relatively short period in office than previous administrations.

He further highlighted what he described as improvements in the ease of doing business within the FCT, particularly in land administration and the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy.

According to Wike, fewer than 4,000 CofOs were issued between 2010 and 2023, while the Tinubu administration has approved more than 25,000 Certificates of Occupancy in less than three years.

He said the increase in land title documentation has enhanced economic opportunities by enabling property owners to use their titles as collateral to access financing and expand their businesses.

“People can use their titles to obtain loans from banks and pursue business opportunities, but many fail to appreciate the significance of these reforms,” he stated.

The minister maintained that the administration’s policies are designed to benefit all citizens and promote economic growth, irrespective of political affiliation or personal background.
