A deeply emotional video circulating on social media has captured the moment rescue workers made contact with a woman trapped beneath the rubble of a collapsed three-storey building in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The building, which was reportedly still under construction, collapsed on Wednesday afternoon, leaving several construction workers and other occupants trapped beneath the debris.

By Thursday morning, the victims had spent more than 12 hours under the wreckage, raising concerns about their safety, access to oxygen, and chances of survival as rescue efforts continued through the night.

In the video, rescuers could be heard speaking to the trapped woman after detecting her voice from beneath the collapsed structure. The rescue workers repeatedly reassured her that efforts were ongoing to reach her and other victims as quickly as possible.

The woman’s cries for help underscored the urgency of the operation, while members of the rescue team encouraged her to remain calm and hold on as they worked through the debris.

The incident has drawn widespread attention and sympathy from Nigerians on social media, with many expressing concern for those still trapped and commending emergency responders for their tireless efforts.

Rescue operations were still ongoing as authorities and emergency personnel continued searching for survivors and assessing the extent of the disaster. Officials are also expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the building, which was reportedly under construction at the time of the incident.

The collapse has once again renewed concerns over building safety standards, regulatory compliance, and construction practices in the country, as stakeholders call for stricter enforcement of building regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
