A tragic air accident occurred near Warsaw, Poland, on Wednesday after a light aircraft crashed and erupted into flames close to an airport runway, leaving at least two people dead and two others injured.
The crash happened at approximately 1 p.m. local time near Bemowo Airport in the Polish capital, prompting a swift response from emergency services, including firefighters, police officers, and medical personnel.
According to local media reports, the aircraft went down under circumstances that are still being investigated. The impact triggered a fire, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky as the wreckage burned near the airport grounds.
Authorities confirmed that two people lost their lives in the crash, while two others sustained injuries. Initial reports indicate that the injured individuals were bystanders, although officials have not yet clarified whether they were struck directly by debris from the aircraft or were hurt while attempting to assist victims at the scene.
Firefighters battled the blaze for some time before eventually bringing it under control and extinguishing the flames surrounding the wreckage.
Speaking to Polish broadcaster TVN24, Chief Inspector Marta Sulowska, spokesperson for the Bemowo Police Station, confirmed the incident and said emergency responders were working at the scene.
“It concerned a light aircraft that had crashed and was on fire. Firefighters are on site. Police are securing the area, and all operations are ongoing,” she said.
The crash drew immediate attention from residents and people in the vicinity, many of whom reported hearing a loud explosion-like sound moments before spotting smoke rising from the area.
Several eyewitnesses later shared their accounts on social media, describing unusual movements by the aircraft shortly before it crashed.
One witness wrote: “A plane crashed in Bemowo. It was flying strangely, which caught my attention. Then I lost sight of it, followed by a loud bang and clouds of black smoke.”
Authorities have yet to release details about the number of people on board the aircraft or the possible cause of the crash. Aviation investigators are expected to examine the wreckage and gather evidence to determine what led to the fatal accident.
The incident has shocked local residents and aviation observers, with many awaiting further updates as the investigation continues. Polish authorities are expected to provide additional information once identification of the victims is completed and preliminary findings become available.
