A new video has surfaced showing the moment Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, was escorted into a prison vehicle after being sentenced.

Chairman Wontumi arrived at the court on Monday, July 20, 2026, in high spirits. He was dressed in a yellow and blue kaftan and arrived in a Porsche saloon car.

However, after the court found him guilty and sentenced him, he left the premises under heavy security as a convicted prisoner.

The video, shared by The1957News, shows prison officers escorting Wontumi into a waiting prison vehicle before it drove away from the court.

Chairman Wontumi was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after being convicted on all six charges against him.

The judgment was delivered on July 20, 2026, by Criminal Court 4 of the High Court, presided over by Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay.

Chairman Wontumi, Akonta Mining Company Limited and a third accused person, Kwame Antwi, were on trial over alleged illegal mining activities on the company’s mining concession at Samreboi in the Western Region.

The prosecution accused the three of unlawfully transferring mineral rights on the concession without approval from the sector minister and allowing mining activities without the required authorisation, contrary to the Minerals and Mining Act.
