According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Mrs. Ngozi Ishiwu-Obodo, the widow of late Police Inspector Dr. Ikechukwu Obodo, has recounted the heartbreaking events surrounding her husband’s death, describing the tragedy as a painful experience that has left her family devastated.

Ngozi explained that she is from Opi in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, while her late husband hailed from Ologo in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area. She said the fatal accident occurred on Sunday, July 5, while he was travelling back to his duty post after spending the weekend with his family, a routine he faithfully observed.

She recalled that her husband left their home at about 7 p.m. and assured her they would remain in contact during the journey. Before departing, he reminded her to buy some items their son would need for his graduation photographs at school the following day and promised to reimburse her for the expenses.

Narrating the emotional moment she received the news, she said, “However, around 9pm, I saw his call. I thought he was calling to tell me that he had reached his office. I picked up the call immediately, but it was another person who spoke to me.

“The person told me that the owner of the phone had an accident. I shouted and started begging them to help me and take him to a nearby hospital. The man and the people around him said I should start coming there, and that I should not come alone. I became afraid.”

She said she immediately contacted her brother, who worked at Park Lane Hospital in Uwani, after learning the accident occurred along Bisala Road. While he headed to the scene, she also set out with the assistance of a neighbour. Sadly, on arriving at the accident location, her fears were confirmed as her husband was pronounced dead.
