BREAKING: Ballon D’Or Organizers Give Conditions To Win Award After World Cup
The Full Story Awaits: Click “Read Original” If You’re Reading on PHOENIX. According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, July 20, 2026, the organisers of the Ballon d’Or have clarified that winning the FIFA World Cup does not automatically guarantee football’s most prestigious individual award, following Spain’s 1-0 victory over Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final.
Spain’s triumph immediately sparked fresh debate over the contenders for this year’s Ballon d’Or. However, the award’s organisers were quick to stress that the honour is determined by a player’s performances over the course of an entire season rather than by success at a single international tournament.Achieve Your Desires. Although several football legends have managed to win both the World Cup and the Ballon d’Or in the same year, the organisers noted that such an achievement remains uncommon. Bobby Charlton completed the double in 1966, Paolo Rossi followed in 1982, and Lothar Matthäus achieved the feat in 1990.
Lionel Messi later joined that exclusive group after inspiring Argentina to World Cup glory in 2022 before securing another Ballon d’Or the following year in recognition of his exceptional displays.
Despite these notable examples, the organisers insisted there is no automatic link between becoming a world champion and lifting the Ballon d’Or. They emphasised that history contains numerous instances of World Cup winners who did not go on to receive the individual accolade.
In their official statement, the organisers revealed that only four of the last seven World Cup-winning stars have also claimed the Ballon d’Or, underlining that international success alone is not enough to secure the award.
They further explained that while an outstanding World Cup campaign can strengthen a player’s credentials, the Ballon d’Or is ultimately decided by sustained excellence throughout the season. Performances in domestic leagues, cup competitions and continental tournaments are all taken into account during the voting process.
With the race for this year’s Ballon d’Or gathering momentum, players seeking to win the coveted prize will need to demonstrate consistent brilliance across the entire campaign rather than rely solely on their achievements at the World Cup.
