Sowore: ‘You Can’t Say Such A Thing To Your President, Somebody Who Is Older Than You’ -Showunmi
A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Segun Showunmi, has criticised African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore for making derogatory remarks about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Showunmi argued that freedom of speech does not excuse disrespect. “The system must understand that people must have the right to ventilate and they must have the right to have an alternative point of view and it must be free and it must be free to do so. Democracy will not even thrive if there’s no freedom of speech. But dude, the fact that you have freedom of speech, does that mean that you can speak recklessly. You can’t say such a thing to your president, somebody who is older than you,” he said.
Showunmi said the Yoruba people has its own culture, traditions, and values that demand a level of decorum in public discourse, and that Sowore, as a presidential candidate, should be held to a higher standard.......>>
