President Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval Of Zainab Marwa As NDDC Board Member

President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate to confirm the appointment of Zainab Marwa as a member of the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Tinubu’s request during plenary on Thursday.

In the letter, Tinubu said the nomination was made in compliance with section 2(2) of the Niger Delta Development Commission Establishment Act.

The president noted that Marwa was nominated to represent the north-east zone on the NDDC governing board.

Tinubu said the appointment was intended to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Abdulrazak Namdas, the immediate past board member representing the north-east.

According to the president, Namdas resigned from the board on March 30, 2026, to contest the governorship election in Adamawa state.

“The Senate is invited to note that the appointment of Dr Zainab Marwa is to fill a vacuum created by the resignation of the immediate past member of the board, Honourable Namdas Abdulrazak, from the northeast zone, who resigned on the 30th day of March 2026 to contest the position of governor of Adamawa state,” the letter reads.

“On this note, it is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the appointment of Dr Zainab Marwa as a member of the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission to represent the northeast zone.”

Akpabio subsequently referred the nomination to the senate committee on NDDC for further legislative action.

The committee is expected to screen the nominee and report back to the Senate within one or two weeks.
