IGP Disu Visits Zamfara, Attends Funeral Prayers For Three Officers Killed By Bandits

The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to Zamfara State, where he joined police officers, bereaved families and residents in honouring three police personnel who lost their lives while carrying out their duties.

The police chief attended the Salat al-Janazah (funeral prayers) organised for the fallen officers, who were killed in the line of duty during operations against criminal elements in the state.

The solemn ceremony brought together security personnel, government officials, community leaders and residents who gathered to pay their final respects to the deceased officers.

During the visit, Disu also proceeded to the Zamfara State Police Command headquarters, where he met with officers and men of the command and expressed condolences on behalf of the Force Management Team and the entire Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Among those who received the IGP was Abubakar Nakwada, who represented the state governor alongside other senior government officials and security stakeholders.

Addressing officers at the command, Disu described the slain policemen as brave and dedicated personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation while confronting insecurity and criminality.

He said their courage and commitment to protecting lives and property would remain a source of inspiration to serving officers across the country.

The IGP assured the families of the deceased that the sacrifices of their loved ones would never be forgotten, noting that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to honour their memory through sustained efforts to combat crime and insecurity.

According to him, although the loss of the officers was painful, it would strengthen the determination of the police to intensify ongoing operations against banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes threatening communities in Zamfara and across the country.

Disu urged officers serving in the state to remain focused, resilient and professional despite the challenges associated with policing in conflict-prone areas.

He stressed that criminal groups would not be allowed to undermine the efforts of security agencies working to restore peace and stability in the region.

The police chief also commended the Zamfara State Command for its recent operational achievements, including the arrest of suspected criminals, recovery of explosives and illegal weapons, rescue of kidnapped victims and successful operations targeting armed bandits.

According to him, the accomplishments recorded by the command demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and the growing collaboration among various security agencies operating in the state.

Disu further assured officers that the force leadership remains committed to improving operational capacity through enhanced logistics, better equipment and improved welfare packages for personnel.

He emphasized the need for continuous intelligence gathering, stronger community engagement and deeper cooperation among security agencies as critical tools in addressing the evolving security challenges facing the country.

The IGP also reminded officers of the importance of discipline, professionalism and adherence to constitutional responsibilities while carrying out their duties.

He stated that the most fitting tribute to the fallen officers would be a renewed commitment to protecting innocent citizens and ensuring that justice prevails over criminality.

“The greatest honour we can give our fallen colleagues is to continue the fight for peace, security and justice,” he told the officers.

Disu concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to supporting its personnel and strengthening nationwide efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property, particularly in areas affected by banditry and other security threats.

His visit comes amid ongoing security operations in Zamfara State, one of the states most affected by bandit attacks, kidnappings and other forms of violent crime in recent years.
