"I Will Stop My 2027 Presidential Campaign If…” — Obi Challenges Arabambi to Produce Evidence of Alleged Campaign Fund Misconduct

Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has challenged Labour Party chieftain Abayomi Arabambi to provide concrete evidence supporting allegations of financial misconduct involving funds donated during the 2023 presidential election campaign.

Obi made the challenge during an interview with Arise News journalist Rufai Oseni, where he responded to claims that campaign donations received by the Labour Party were allegedly diverted or poorly managed.

The controversy followed allegations by Arabambi, who claimed that substantial amounts of money contributed by supporters to boost the party’s campaign activities were not properly accounted for.

However, Obi rejected the accusations, describing them as baseless and politically motivated. He insisted that those making such claims must provide verifiable evidence rather than relying on public statements.

According to the former governor, he remains confident in the transparency of his political activities and is willing to step aside from the 2027 presidential race if credible proof of wrongdoing is presented.

Obi stated that if Arabambi could provide bank statements, financial records, or any authentic documentation showing that even a fraction of the alleged missing funds existed, he would reconsider his political ambition.

He said the burden of proof rests on those making the accusations and urged anyone with evidence of financial misconduct to present it before the appropriate legal authorities.

Obi further argued that serious allegations involving public funds should not be handled through media appearances alone but must be subjected to proper legal examination.

He also suggested that individuals who claim to have evidence should bring it forward in court, where facts can be established through due process.

The former governor maintained that his approach to public service has always been based on accountability, transparency and responsible management of resources.

He stressed that his campaign finances during the 2023 presidential election were handled with accountability and subjected to necessary scrutiny.

The exchange comes amid growing political disagreements within opposition circles as parties and politicians position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The controversy has also renewed conversations about campaign financing, internal party disputes and the importance of transparency among political actors seeking public office.
