Pregnant Wife Dies Out Of Pains As Husband Insists She Delivers Home, Locks Her Up In Their Room

According to accounts shared with Igbere TV, Mrs. Nkechi Chidi, who had previously delivered twice by caesarean section, a medical history that made hospital delivery not merely advisable but critical was allegedly locked in a room by her husband as she battled labour pains, with access to proper medical care deliberately denied.

Rather than contacting emergency services or the nurse who reportedly lived within the same compound, Chidi allegedly brought in a patent medicine dealer who administered improper injections and conducted an unsafe delivery.

The baby was reportedly dragged out during the process while the husband allegedly held down his wife’s legs. The woman subsequently bled to death.

The incident is said to have occurred around 11 PM, and Chidi allegedly withheld information from compound residents and the deceased’s family until the following afternoon, when a neighbour the nurse living in the same compound came to check on Mrs. Nkechi and uncovered what had happened.

The nurse immediately called for the newborn to be moved to intensive care. The baby survived.

The deceased’s family, upon learning of the circumstances, withdrew the body and deposited it in the man’s compound in protest. Police officers from Kpirikpiri Station on patrol intervened, restored order, and conveyed the body to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki mortuary.

Chidi remains in police custody pending investigation and trial.
