Five Central University Students Remanded Over Alleged Cannabis Sales

Five students of Central University have been remanded by a court over their alleged involvement in the sale and distribution of cannabis and cannabis-infused products.

The Deputy Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Alexander Twum-Barimah, confirmed the development during an interview on the Joy FM Super Morning Show on Thursday.

“As I speak now, they have been remanded by the court to appear somewhere next week,” he said.

According to him, investigations are ongoing to establish the full scope of the alleged operation, including the source of the substances and the distribution network.

He explained that authorities are working to trace the supply chain to determine where the drugs were obtained and how they were distributed.

“Investigation is going to reveal all these things, for us to establish where they got it from, who gave it to them for them to trade it and even if they went out to buy it, where did they buy it from. We are going to uncover all those things,” he said.

The suspects, who include Level 100, Level 300 and Level 400 students, were arrested during a targeted operation on campus following intelligence on drug-related activities.

Preliminary findings suggest the students were allegedly involved in producing and selling cannabis-infused products such as ice cream, sobolo, toffees, pepper, and eggs, in addition to raw cannabis.

NACOC says it will continue investigations and intensify efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking and abuse in tertiary institutions across the country.
