Ebonyi: EEDA Backs Zoning to 2031, Endorses Nwifuru for Second Term

The Ezza Ezekuna Development Association, EEDA, has declared that Ebonyi State’s governorship should remain in Ebonyi North until 2031, in line with the state’s zoning arrangement.

The position was announced Thursday in Abakaliki during a press conference where EEDA unveiled its mission, vision and policy direction.

The address read by former Ebonyi Commissioner for Information, Prof. Chike Onwe and signed by the group’s National President Chief Kingsley Akam and Secretary Comrade Uchechukwu Ede, also conveyed the group’s endorsement of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for a second term.

EEDA, a 2024 CAC- Registered socio-cultural, economic and political body said it is committed to advocacy and advancing issues affecting Ezza communities and adding their voices to issues of public interest.

Speaking on political succession, the group insisted on justice, fairness and political stability. “The governorship of Ebonyi State remains, in accordance with the prevailing zoning understanding, in Ebonyi North until 2031. No reasonable Ezza person committed to our collective stability would oppose this,” EEDA stated.

It warned that political ambition should not undermine state peace, stressing that succession talks must respect established agreements.

EEDA commended Gov. Nwifuru for promoting peace, infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment, education and conflict resolution. “We declare our irrevocable endorsement of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for a second term. This endorsement is free, without coercion and without reservation,” the group added.

The association also dismissed a recent communiqué by a certain group named “Umuekumenyi Leaders’ Council,” saying the group lacks legal recognition and does not represent Ezza people. EEDA reaffirmed itself as the duly constituted platform for Ezza Ezekuna interests.

It urged Ezza sons and daughters at home and abroad to embrace unity and support efforts to build a stronger Ezza nation and prosperous Ebonyi.
