Women Avoid Politics Because of This’ – Afia Pokuaa Condemns Minister’s Comments on Akosua Manu

Popular broadcaster and media personality Afia Pokuaa has criticised Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene over comments he made during an ongoing social media exchange with Akosua Manu, a Special Aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The controversy began after Akosua Manu, popularly known as Kozie, criticised the minister over remarks directed at the leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The online exchange intensified when Akosua Manu mocked the minister’s dressing style and suggested that he focus more on addressing developmental challenges in the Ashanti Region instead of spending time on social media.

Dr Amoakohene responded with a comment in Twi that many social media users considered offensive and inappropriate.

The response quickly generated criticism online, with some people accusing the minister of using language with sexist undertones.

Reacting to the development in a Facebook post, Afia Pokuaa urged the minister to delete the comment and reconsider his approach.

“Oh No! Ashanti Regional Minister, the way I’m invested in your success, eh? Acts like this are not only offensive but will derail your political future,” she wrote.

According to the broadcaster, such remarks discourage women from participating in politics and public discussions.

“Women don’t want to be part of politics because of offensive attacks like these,” she stated.

Afia Pokuaa stressed that political disagreements should not lead public officials to cross lines of decency and respect.

She also questioned the appropriateness of the comments, especially at a time when the minister’s family was reportedly celebrating the birth of a child.

“Please delete this post. It is utterly offensive and needless. Politics should never make us cross some lines, irrespective of provocation, especially in a normal political debate,” she added.

The incident has since sparked widespread debate on social media, with many users calling on public officials to maintain professionalism and civility during political discussions.

Others have urged political figures to focus on issues and policies rather than personal attacks, particularly on platforms where their comments can reach large audiences.

The minister has yet to publicly respond to Afia Pokuaa’s criticism at the time of this report.
