Anambra Court Remands Couple Over Alleged Abuse of 10-Year-Old Boy
Anambra State Police Command has secured a court order remanding a couple, identified as Mr. Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40, and Mrs. Chisom Chukwuyere, 30, in a correctional facility over their alleged involvement in the abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Isiowulu community, Anambra State.
The suspects were arraigned before a competent court after the police concluded preliminary investigations into the alleged child abuse case, which sparked widespread public outrage following the circulation of videos and reports of the victim on social media.
According to the police, the disturbing footage attracted significant attention and prompted swift action from law enforcement authorities to ensure the safety of the child and bring those allegedly responsible to justice.
Investigations revealed that the 10-year-old boy was rescued through the intervention of concerned neighbours and other residents of the community, who reportedly became alarmed by his condition and the alleged treatment he was receiving while living with the couple, believed to be his guardians.
The timely intervention by members of the community led to the child’s rescue before the matter was reported to the police for further investigation.
Following the completion of the initial investigation, the suspects were formally charged before the court, which subsequently ordered that they be remanded in a correctional centre pending the continuation of legal proceedings.
The case has generated widespread condemnation, with many Nigerians calling for justice for the victim and stronger enforcement of child protection laws to safeguard vulnerable children from abuse and neglect.
Police authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that the matter is thoroughly prosecuted in accordance with the law while assuring members of the public that the welfare of the rescued child remains a priority as legal proceedings continue.
