“About 48 Bullets Fired”-Details Emerge After Adwoa Safo Shooting Incident

Spokesperson for the Kantanka family and Kristo Asafo Mission, Dr Emmanuel Boakye, has shared details about the events that allegedly led to the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo.

Speaking at a press briefing on June 25, 2026, Dr Boakye said the issue started from disagreements over leadership succession within the Mission.

According to him, the Kristo Asafo Church has a constitution that guides leadership changes, but some family members challenged the installation process and went to court in an attempt to stop the ceremony.

He explained that attempts were made to serve court summons on Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, who was set to become the new leader of the Mission, but he could not initially be found.

“The Kristo Asafo Church has a constitution, and some siblings raised concerns about the installation of a new leader, so they took the matter to court to stop the installation ceremony.

“Adwoa and her siblings were looking for Akofena to serve him the summons, but he could not be located,” he said.

Dr Boakye said the situation became more complicated after the installation ceremony was moved to Akofena’s residence.

He claimed Adwoa Safo, being a lawyer, became involved because she understood the legal consequences of the court summons.

“She is a lawyer and she knows the implications of a summons. She was going to block the installation and went to inform her brother about the implications of the ceremony,” he said.

According to him, Adwoa Safo travelled to the location but did not enter the compound. He alleged that she was stopped at the entrance by private security personnel before the situation turned violent.

“She did not enter the premises. It was at the entrance that she saw the security personnel and it could be heard that some persons were saying ‘Shoot her, shoot her,” he claimed.

Dr Boakye further alleged that gunshots were fired during the confrontation, claiming that dozens of bullets hit her vehicle.

“About 20 bullets were fired at her fender; in all about 48 bullets were fired at her… they were aiming to kill her. She was covered in blood and rushed to the hospital,” he stated.

He said Adwoa Safo received emergency treatment before being transferred to the 37 Military Hospital, where she underwent further medical checks.

He added that her condition was serious, with facial swelling and difficulty sleeping, and that discussions were ongoing about possible specialised treatment abroad.

Meanwhile, nine people, including Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, have appeared before the Adentan Circuit Court over the incident.

The accused persons were granted bail of GH¢500,000 each, and the case has been adjourned to September 23, 2026.
