Yilwatda To Wike: ‘I’m Jealous You Are In PDP, I Wish I Could Corner You To APC’

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has openly expressed admiration for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, jokingly admitting that he is envious that the former Rivers State governor remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Yilwatda made the remark during the official flag-off of the construction of Collector Road CO1, a major infrastructure project stretching from the Nile University axis to Ring Road III, as well as the extension of the Body of Benchers Road in Abuja.

The projects form part of activities marking the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and are aimed at improving road infrastructure and easing transportation challenges within the Federal Capital Territory.

Representing President Tinubu at the ceremony, the APC national chairman commended Wike for what he described as an exceptional work ethic and commitment to transforming the nation’s capital.

According to Yilwatda, the FCT minister has demonstrated remarkable energy and dedication since assuming office, adding that he often wonders how Wike manages to maintain such a demanding work schedule.

“The workaholic, ever-working and tireless Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, I honestly do not know when you sleep,” he said.

‘I Wish I Could Bring You Into APC’

In a light-hearted moment that drew reactions from attendees, Yilwatda said he wished he could persuade Wike to leave the PDP and join the ruling APC.

He jokingly described himself as being “jealous” that the minister remains in the opposition party despite working closely with the Tinubu administration.

“You know that I am jealous that you are still in the PDP. I wish I could corner you and bring you into the APC,” he stated.

The APC chairman further recalled Wike’s support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, suggesting that the ruling party had benefitted from the minister’s political influence and administrative experience.

According to him, the PDP effectively “loaned” Wike to the APC during the 2023 election cycle, a move he said ultimately contributed to the successes being recorded in the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike’s Performance Draws Praise

Yilwatda noted that the minister’s achievements in Abuja have earned him recognition beyond party lines, adding that his performance demonstrates that effective governance can transcend political affiliations.

He praised the pace of infrastructure development under Wike’s leadership and argued that his accomplishments have helped reinforce public confidence in the Tinubu administration’s commitment to delivering critical projects.

The APC chairman further suggested that Wike’s contributions challenge conventional political divisions, noting that competence and dedication to public service should remain the focus regardless of party membership.

His remarks come amid continued speculation about Wike’s relationship with the PDP following his support for President Tinubu during the 2023 elections and his subsequent appointment as FCT minister.

Although Wike remains a member of the PDP, his close working relationship with the APC-led Federal Government has continued to generate debate within political circles.
