Woman Accused of Stalking Marco van Basten Sent for Psychiatric Care

A Dutch court has suspended the detention of a 47-year-old woman accused of stalking football legend Marco van Basten.

The Amsterdam District Court issued a care authorisation for Michaela I. She can now receive treatment at a forensic psychiatric clinic.

The Public Prosecution Service suspects her of harassing Van Basten between October 2025 and April 2026.

She allegedly spent time near his home in Amsterdam-Zuid and followed him.

Prosecutors also accuse her of distributing flyers containing false information and publishing claims on social media.

A 26-year-old co-suspect allegedly participated in the stalking. Authorities had already released that suspect from custody.

The court has not announced when the full trial will begin.

The allegations remain unproven. The court has not convicted either suspect.

Van Basten is one of the Netherlands’ most successful former footballers. He helped the country win the 1988 European Championship.

He later coached the Dutch national team and Ajax.
