Mother Named as Suspect After 12-Year-Old Son Found Dead in Eerbeek
Dutch police have confirmed that the woman arrested over the death of a 12-year-old boy in Eerbeek is his mother.
Emergency services found the boy dead inside a house on Léharstraat on Friday morning.
Police arrested an adult at the same property. They later confirmed that the suspect was the boy’s mother.
Officers believe the child may have died as a result of a crime. Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Emergency services received a call at about 7:15 a.m. An ambulance and trauma helicopter attended the scene for a resuscitation attempt, but medical workers could not save the boy.
Police sealed off the area and placed a forensic investigation tent near the house.
The authorities have not disclosed the suspected cause of death. They have also not announced any formal charges against the mother.
Brummen Mayor Jan Nathan Rozendaal said the boy’s death “deeply affects” him.
“My thoughts first go out to his loved ones and everyone who knew and loved him. An event like this has a major impact on family, friends, and other people involved,” he said.
The mother remains a suspect. A court has not found her guilty of any crime.
