Who sent bullets to First Bank MD? Lagos Police open major investigation

The Lagos State Police Command has opened an investigation into the delivery of a parcel containing live bullets to the residence of Olusegun Alebiosu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank Nigeria.

Lagos Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing, saying Alebiosu reported the matter to the police on May 7, 2026.

According to the CP, the bank chief told the police that his security guard had received a parcel at his Lagos residence.

When the parcel was opened, two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were found inside.

Fatai said the discovery raised serious suspicion, adding that the command was treating the matter as a serious case.

“Presently, I can confirm to you that the matter is still under investigation. It is a serious case. The investigation needs to be more thorough,” he said.

The commissioner, however, said no suspect had been arrested.

“Presently, no suspect is in custody. Even though the MD has mentioned some people who he suspected of being the brains behind it. That is his suspicion anyway. We are still working on it,” he added.

Fatai made the disclosure while responding to questions from journalists on reports that a suspicious parcel had been delivered to Alebiosu’s residence.

At the briefing, the police commissioner also announced the arrest of several crime suspects across the state.

He said items recovered by operatives included 14 firearms, four live cartridges, 51 mobile phones, one motorcycle, 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms, and vandalised electrical cables.
