What Is Left For Ordinary Citizen? – Dalung Reacts As ‘Armed Bandits’ Exchange Greeting With Police

Former Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has expressed concern for ordinary citizens following a viral video of armed bandits openly exchanging greetings with security personnel.

The video circulating online sparked fresh concerns over security operations in the North-West after it allegedly captured armed gunmen passing through a police checkpoint without being challenged.

In the footage, a large number of armed men riding motorcycles were seen moving through the checkpoint while some police officers appeared to direct traffic and exchange greetings as the convoy passed.

Security sources told SaharaReporters that the incident reportedly occurred recently along a route between Zamfara and Sokoto states, two of the areas hardest hit by banditry in northern Nigeria.

In the video, a man believed to be recording the scene could be heard speaking in Hausa and expressing concern over the development.

Reacting to the video, Dalung, in a post on his Facebook page, said Nigeria is in a very dire situation and questioned what will become of ordinary citizens.

He wrote, “This country is in a very dire situation. Seeing that bandits now move openly on highways in large numbers on motorcycles, heavily armed, while security personnel stationed along the same roads can do little more than exchange greetings with one another is heartbreaking and unbelievable!

“And no, I am not referring to the security operatives who are doing their best to confront these bandits, but about is the apparent normalization and entrenchment of banditry in Nigeria. The question now is: what is left for the ordinary citizen?”
