VIDEO: Moment Cattle Herder Survived Lioness Attack After Remaining Calm for Nearly 30 Minutes
A cattle herder in India narrowly escaped death after reportedly spending nearly 30 minutes trapped beneath a lioness during a frightening attack that was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media.
The dramatic incident occurred in Garajiya village, located in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, on Sunday, July 6. According to forest officials, the man survived by staying remarkably calm and avoiding any sudden movements while the lioness pinned him to the ground.
Footage from the scene shows the injured man lying motionless on a village road beside a parked pickup truck as the lioness stood over him. Despite appearing to suffer injuries and bleeding, he refrained from struggling. At one point, he was even seen gently stroking the animal in what appeared to be an attempt to keep it calm and prevent further aggression.
As the tense encounter unfolded, villagers gathered at a safe distance, shouting and throwing stones in an effort to scare the lioness away. However, none of them attempted to move closer because of the danger posed by the wild animal.
After several agonizing minutes, the lioness eventually released the man and calmly walked toward a nearby cattle shelter, bringing the terrifying ordeal to an end.
The victim was later identified as Kalubhai Parmar. He was initially taken to a government hospital in Palitana for emergency treatment before being transferred to a medical facility in Bhavnagar for further care.
Forest authorities confirmed that Parmar’s condition is stable and that he is no longer in danger.

In a statement issued by the Palitana Range Forest Office, officials explained that the incident happened after villagers spotted the lioness in the area and raised an alarm. During the commotion, the animal reportedly attempted to leave the location but injured the cattle herder in the process.
The forest department commended Parmar for his exceptional composure during the life-threatening encounter, describing his actions as an example of “extraordinary courage, patience, presence of mind and mental composure.”
Officials noted that his calm reaction likely prevented the attack from becoming even more severe.
Authorities have since launched an operation to capture the lioness. They also urged residents not to provoke, chase or attempt to drive away the animal if it is sighted.
Instead, members of the public have been advised to immediately notify the forest department so trained personnel can safely handle the situation.
