Popular social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, on Thursday led a protest in Abuja as scores of supporters took to the streets to demand urgent government intervention over worsening insecurity, economic challenges and the rising cost of living across Nigeria.

The demonstration, which drew participants from different parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), saw protesters carrying placards bearing messages calling for improved security, economic relief and greater accountability from public officials.

Protesters Voice Frustration Over National Challenges

As the procession moved through parts of Abuja, some demonstrators chanted slogans critical of the current administration, including calls for political change and stronger leadership in addressing the country’s mounting problems.

The protest followed a similar demonstration organised by VeryDarkMan shortly after his return to Nigeria from China on Wednesday night. Thursday’s rally appeared to be an extension of that action, attracting more supporters and amplifying concerns over the state of the nation.

Participants expressed frustration over persistent economic hardship, rising inflation, unemployment and the increasing difficulties faced by many Nigerians in meeting basic living expenses.

Several protesters argued that the country’s economic situation has continued to place enormous pressure on households, businesses and young people struggling to earn a living.

Insecurity Dominates Protest Demands

A major focus of the demonstration was the country’s security situation, with protesters highlighting the continued cases of kidnappings, banditry and violent attacks reported in various parts of Nigeria.

Many participants said communities across the country still live under constant fear despite repeated assurances from government authorities that efforts are being intensified to tackle insecurity.

Some demonstrators specifically referenced recent reports of schoolchildren being abducted and the recurring attacks on rural communities, describing the incidents as evidence that more decisive action is needed.

The protesters urged security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve response times and intensify operations against criminal groups responsible for kidnappings and violent attacks.

Call for Better Governance

Beyond security concerns, protesters also called for improved governance and policies that directly address the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

They appealed to the Federal Government to implement measures aimed at reducing economic hardship, creating jobs and improving living standards.

According to participants, addressing insecurity and economic difficulties simultaneously is essential to restoring public confidence and ensuring national stability.

The protest remained largely peaceful, with participants marching through designated routes while expressing their grievances through placards, chants and speeches.

Observers noted that the demonstration reflected growing public concern over issues affecting daily life across the country, particularly among young Nigerians who continue to demand greater accountability and responsiveness from public institutions.
