UNBELIEVABLE: 1966: We Saw Recently When OBJ Said They Shouldn’t Have Fired Or Opened Fight With Biafrans-Nnadi

Tony Nnadi, Secretary-General of the Lower Niger Congress (LNC) and Co-Founder of NINAS, has criticized former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, over his rejection of claims that genocide occurred during the Nigerian Civil War, arguing that comments and reflections from key participants in the conflict contradict such denials.

Nnadi spoke during an interview on Afia News, on Wednesday, 3 June, 2026, where he reacted to Gowon’s recent remarks on the Biafran War and the long-running debate over the humanitarian consequences of the conflict that lasted from 1967 to 1970.

According to Nnadi, several prominent figures who played significant roles during Nigeria’s military era have, over the years, made statements that raise questions about the official narratives surrounding the war. He maintained that these reflections should not be ignored when assessing the events that led to the deaths and suffering experienced during the conflict.

“We saw very recently when Obasanjo said that they shouldn’t have fired or opened any fight with the Biafrans,” Nnadi said.

The NINAS co-founder argued that such statements from former leaders demonstrate that there is still much to be acknowledged about the circumstances that culminated in the war. He contended that attempts to dismiss allegations of genocide overlook the experiences of millions of people affected by the conflict.

Nnadi further stated that the memories of those who lost family members, homes, and livelihoods during the war cannot simply be erased through official denials. According to him, a genuine national conversation about the civil war must involve an honest examination of historical records and testimonies from all sides.
