Three d£ad, 12 rescued alive in Ogun building collapse

Three people have di£d, while 12 others were rescued alive following the collapse of a three-storey building at OGS Bus Stop, Baale Road, Ajuwon, Ogun State. 
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said the survivors included residents trapped beneath the rubble after the building collapsed in the early hours of Monday, July 27. 
In an operational update issued on Tuesday, July 28, LASEMA said the deceased were an adult woman, a baby girl and a 75-year-old man. 
The agency added that search and rescue operations were still ongoing as. 
LASEMA said it deployed its elite response team and heavy-duty rescue and recovery equipment to the scene on Tuesday, on the directive of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to support the Ogun State Government’s rescue efforts. 
According to the agency, rescue operations were carried out in collaboration with the Ogun State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Police Force, the Ogun State Fire Service, the Amotekun Corps and other emergency responders. 
LASEMA also disclosed that a preliminary structural assessment showed that an adjoining bungalow had been severely weakened by the impact of the collapse and now posed a safety risk. 
It said the affected structure would undergo controlled demolition to prevent a secondary collapse and ensure the safety of rescue workers and residents in the area. 
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the deployment reflected Lagos State’s commitment to providing emergency support beyond its borders. 
He said, “This deployment reflects the vision of Mr. Governor that disaster knows no boundaries. Lagos, as a Centre of Excellence and a First Responder State, has both the capacity and the responsibility to support our neighbours in times of distress.”
He urged the public to stay away from the scene to allow rescue personnel unrestricted access, while also calling on property owners and developers to comply strictly with building regulations and carry out periodic structural integrity tests to prevent similar incidents.
