NGX investors lose N812bn in four-day trading week

The Nigerian Exchange Ltd. (NGX) All-Share Index and market capitalisation declined by 0.52 per cent and 0.50 per cent respectively, closing the week at 250,808.27 points and N162.843 trillion.
The figures were lower than the previous week’s close of 252,113.41 points and N163.655 trillion.
Consequently, investors lost N812 billion in market value during the week under review.
Similarly, all other indices closed lower, except the NGX Main Board, NGX Insurance, NGX Oil & Gas and NGX Growth indices, which appreciated by 0.08 per cent, 0.61 per cent, 0.05 per cent and 1.85 per cent respectively.
The NGX Commodity Index closed flat.
The market opened for four trading days during the week, as the Federal Government declared Thursday a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s Independence Day.
Meanwhile, a total turnover of 3.166 billion shares worth N155.023 billion was recorded in 206,662 transactions during the week on the floor of the Exchange.
This contrasted with the 4.689 billion shares valued at N240.824 billion that changed hands in 261,198 deals in the previous week.
The Financial Services Industry led the activity chart with 1.944 billion shares valued at N77.733 billion traded in 92,035 deals.
This represented 61.41 per cent and 50.14 per cent of the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The Investment Industry followed with 409.484 million shares worth N5.400 billion in 1,444 deals.
The ICT Industry ranked third, with a turnover of 231.705 million shares worth N9.606 billion in 24,133 transactions.
Trading in the top three equities, namely Fidelity Bank Plc, VFD Group Plc and Access Holdings Plc, accounted for 1.343 billion shares worth N27.580 billion in 15,771 deals.
This represented 42.42 per cent and 17.79 per cent of the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
Forty-four equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than the 61 recorded in the previous week.
Thirty-seven equities depreciated in price, higher than the 32 recorded in the previous week, while 65 equities remained unchanged, compared with 63 in the previous week.
Sovereign Trust, Etranzact, Learn Africa, PZ Cussons and Fortis Global Insurance were the top five losers, declining by 30k, N1.50, 95k, N7.40 and 19k respectively.
On the other hand, ABC Transport, Critical Minerals Financing Corp, Livingtrust Mortgage Bank, VFD Group and Computer Warehouse Group emerged as the top gainers for the week.
They gained N2.30, N1.23, 85k, N2.30 and N2.75 respectively.
The NGX notified trading licence holders and the investing public that an additional 3.21 billion ordinary shares of 50k each of Guinea Insurance Plc were listed on the daily official list of the NGX on Monday, Sept. 28.
Also, an additional 3.68 billion ordinary shares of 50k each of Regency Alliance Insurance Plc were listed on the daily official list of the NGX on Monday, Sept. 28.
Meanwhile, new and supplementary units of Federal Government bonds issued in September were listed on the NGX on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
An additional 1.11 billion ordinary shares of 50k each of The Initiates Plc were listed on the daily official list of the NGX on Wednesday, Sept. 30. (NAN)
