Suspected Thief Locks Himself In Stranger’s Car To Escape Kintampo Mob

A suspected thief was apprehended in Kintampo after fleeing into a nearby parked vehicle and locking himself inside in a desperate attempt to escape pursuing residents, according to eyewitness accounts.

“The thief ran and entered someone’s vehicle and locked himself inside,” one resident recounted, describing how the man had hoped the locked doors would buy him enough time to evade the growing crowd.

The plan failed, as residents surrounded the vehicle, eventually gaining access and pulling him out. He was reportedly assaulted by some members of the crowd before being handed over, according to accounts from the scene.

Videos from the incident, shared online, show a tense standoff around an orange commercial vehicle as bystanders gathered to confront the suspect.

Incidents of mob justice targeting suspected thieves remain a persistent, if controversial, feature of community response to crime across many parts of Ghana, with residents often taking matters into their own hands before or instead of police involvement.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident, including the suspect’s identity, the items he allegedly stole, or his current condition following the assault.
