Suspected motorcycle snatchers k!ll NSCDC officer in Abuja
An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Maiwada Abubakar Santali, has been k!lled by suspected motorcycle snatchers in Karshi community, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Santali, a Deputy Superintendent of the Corps (DSC), was attached to the Department of Urban and Regional Development under the Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA).
Speaking with Abuja Metro on Wednesday, July 29, a cousin of the deceased, Sani Musa, said Santali returned to his residence in Karshi from work in Abuja on Monday, July 27, and spent time with his family before leaving in the evening to meet friends at a popular spot, locally known as Majalisa, near Government Secondary School (GSS), Karshi.
According to Musa, Santali was the first to arrive at the location when he was allegedly attacked by suspected motorcycle snatchers, who repeatedly struck him on the head before fleeing with his motorcycle.
“He was the first person to get there, as we later discovered. The attackers hit him several times on the head and made away with the motorcycle he rode to the place,” Musa said.
He explained that some commercial motorcyclists who were washing their motorcycles at a nearby stream heard his cries for help and rushed to the scene.
“They met him staggering towards them before he collapsed. They immediately took him to the General Hospital in Karshi. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to the National Hospital, Abuja, where he died the following day, Tuesday,” Musa added.
The deceased was buried on Tuesday, July 28, in accordance with Islamic rites.
