Police Launch Investigation Into Shooting Incident Involving Adwoa Safo

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.

In a statement, the Madina Divisional Command confirmed that preliminary investigations show the former legislator sustained a gunshot injury to her left ear while visiting her late father’s residence on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

According to the police, Adwoa Safo later reported the incident to the Kwabenya Police and presented a vehicle with visible gunshot damage.

The statement read:

“The Madina Divisional Command is investigating a shooting incident involving Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo at Kwabenya in the Accra Region.

Preliminary investigations indicate that on Sunday, 21st June 2026, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo sustained a gunshot injury to her left ear while visiting his late father’s residence at Kwabenya. She subsequently reported the incident to the Kwabenya Police and presented a vehicle bearing registration number GN 3482-24, which had visible gunshot damage.

The victim has been issued with a Police Medical Report Form and is receiving medical attention. The vehicle has been retained for forensic examination, while investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify all persons involved”.

Meanwhile, lawyer for the Kristo Asafo Church, Nana Kofi Kantanka, has alleged that Adwoa Safo fired the first shot during the confrontation.

Speaking on JoyNews, he claimed Adwoa Safo attempted to force her way through the gates of the venue where activities related to the succession of the late Kwadwo Safo were taking place.

“We realised that it was Honorable Sarah Adwoa Safo who was in the car. Since she couldn’t penetrate the gate through with the car, she moved to the northern gate and repeated the same action”.

“The information I got was that she fired the first shot and then banged the gate with her car. The private security also knew that the lives of people were at risk, so they were giving warning shots,” he said.

He added that he could not confirm whether Adwoa Safo had been injured.

The incident reportedly occurred at the residence of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, amid ongoing tensions over the leadership succession of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

Witnesses alleged that several shots were fired at Adwoa Safo’s vehicle, with one bullet reportedly grazing her near the ear.

Police investigations are ongoing to determine exactly what happened and identify all individuals involved in the incident.
