Manasseh Azure Questions Government’s Claim That Sedina Tamakloe Is in Custody
Award-winning investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni says he is not convinced that former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is currently in custody.
According to him, the government has not provided enough information to prove that she is being held by the authorities.
He said there is no reason for the government to keep her location secret if she is truly in custody. He added that the lack of clear information is creating more suspicion among Ghanaians.
Speaking on Citi FM on June 20, 2026, Manasseh Azure said:
“Long before her coming in, I have heard, and many people in Ghana may also have heard, that we have a system in this country where some influential people, when they are convicted and said to be in jail, don’t actually go to prison”.
“It is a whole lot of mess,” he said.
“I don’t think anything prevents this administration from telling us that, look, this person has come in; he came in on this date; he is in Nsawam prison, or he is at the Cantonments Police cells, and if everybody goes there they will find him,” he stated.
“I don’t think anything stops the government from being clear on that. So where the government intends to hide something, where there is no reason to hide it, it only fuels suspicion,” he said.
“As I sit here, I cannot trust that Sedina Tamakloe is in custody just because somebody tells me she is in custody. I don’t trust that,” he said.
“What stops the government from telling us where she is, which prison, which police cells she is being kept in?” he asked.
Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament is also demanding more details about Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu’s return to Ghana and her current status.
The Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, said the information released by the government so far is not enough.
Speaking to journalists on June 19, 2026, he said:
“Government communication on Sedina is a very terse one. We are having an accountable democracy where you expect government to provide full details in terms of where she was received and where she has been sent to, exactly who received her, and then the details as to whether she’s in there to serve the full sentence as we have her convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction”.
“It is not adequate for a government spokesperson to say that she is in prison custody; you can be under the care of prisons and still be in one home or the other. You can be in the hospital and still be under the care of the prison service”, he stated.
The MP said Ghanaians deserve clear information about where Sedina Tamakloe is being held and whether she is serving her prison sentence.
He added:
“We want definitive information from the Minister for Government Communications. Exactly what is the status of Sedina in terms of her arrival in Ghana in prison custody?
If they provide us with the exact details, then Ghanaians would have the opportunity to understand that she’s in to serve the full term of her conviction. If the government had given us all the information, we wouldn’t be in this state of speculation.
If she has indeed been taken there, why is the information not coming from the government? We expect the government to be candid with its people. They should give us full details of her whereabouts.
We expect that the government will come out clearly. We are dissatisfied with the information that has been put out there, and we expect the government ministry to do the needful with regard to that”, he added.
