Police Arrest Six Bodyguards Linked to Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena After Shooting

Six bodyguards of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, the younger brother of former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, have reportedly been arrested following a shooting incident at Kwabenya.

According to reports, the police picked up the bodyguards on Sunday after the alleged shooting involving Adwoa Safo.

A source told Citi News that the arrests were made around 9 p.m.

“I don’t really remember the time, but it was around nine thereabouts. Some of the bodyguards from his brother’s house, from Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena’s house, have been arrested. The police just took them away. At the moment, we haven’t heard anything further and are waiting for the police to come up with something,” the source said.

The source also claimed that Adwoa Safo was shot in front of her brother’s residence but her injuries were not life-threatening.

“She is very okay. She is at the hospital. The injury is not too serious, but an injury is an injury. She was in the car when she was shot,” the source stated.

“Some of the pellets caused injuries under her neck and on her chest. There was blood on her face because she had been shot and was bleeding before she was rushed to the hospital,” the source added.

The incident reportedly happened at the residence of Israel Kwadwo Safo, where activities were being organised in connection with efforts to install him as successor to his late father.

Earlier reports indicated that armed men opened fire on Adwoa Safo’s vehicle while she was at the location.

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that it is investigating the shooting incident. Police said preliminary investigations show that Adwoa Safo sustained a gunshot injury to her left ear.

The vehicle she presented to the police has been retained for forensic examination as investigations continue.

The shooting has increased tensions within the Kristo Asafo family over the succession of the late Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo.

Some family members have opposed moves to install Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the next leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

Reports also indicate that a High Court injunction has halted attempts by some elders to install Israel Kwadwo Safo as successor.
