People Closest To Me Said I Was Lazy – Tekno Opens Up on Health Battle That Forced Him Away From Music

Nigerian singer and songwriter Augustine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno, has revealed that a serious health condition was responsible for his prolonged absence from the music scene.

The award-winning artiste disclosed that he suffered severe vocal cord damage caused by acid reflux, a condition that significantly affected his ability to sing and perform for an extended period.

Speaking during an interview with Cool FM, Tekno said the experience plunged him into one of the darkest periods of his life and career.

According to the singer, the aftermath of the surgery left him emotionally drained, to the point where he completely lost his passion for music.

He also lamented that many people, including some of those closest to him, misunderstood his situation and assumed he had simply become lazy or was no longer interested in making music.

“Even the people closest to me were saying that, ‘He is just lazy. He doesn’t want to perform.’ I was in a very dark place. Even after I recovered, I hated music. I didn’t want to hear music for a long time. I was only forcing myself to do music because I had a deal with Universal,” he said.

Tekno explained that recovering physically was only part of the challenge, as he also had to deal with the emotional pain of being misunderstood during one of the most difficult phases of his career.

He said it took time, patience, and intentional effort to overcome the stigma surrounding his absence and rediscover his love for music.

The singer’s revelation sheds light on the personal struggles he faced behind the scenes, offering fans a better understanding of the circumstances that kept him away from the spotlight for several years.
