Osifo Vows to Work With Tinubu After Losing APC Presidential Primary
Businessman and presidential aspirant, Stanley Osifo, has accepted defeat in the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress, while pledging his continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking shortly after the declaration of results at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre on Sunday, Osifo said although he was unhappy with the outcome of the exercise, he remained committed to the unity and progress of the ruling party.
According to him, “God knows better, and God knows tomorrow,” stressing that the primary contest was not a personal battle against Tinubu but part of the democratic process within the APC.
Osifo scored 16,503 votes in the nationwide direct primary conducted across 8,809 wards, while Tinubu secured 10,999,162 votes to emerge as the party’s presidential candidate.
Reacting to the outcome, the businessman admitted he was not satisfied with the final result but insisted that he had no grievances against either the party or the president.
“We are one party, we are one family,” he stated, adding that the essence of the primary was simply to determine who would fly the APC flag in the next election.
He further noted that cooperation within the party was necessary, saying no leader could succeed alone without the support of others.
Osifo also welcomed Tinubu’s conciliatory remarks after the contest, describing the gesture as a sign of unity within the APC.
He maintained that members of the party must rally behind the chosen candidate to strengthen the party’s chances in 2027.
The aspirant expressed appreciation to his supporters and coordinators across Nigeria, praising their efforts throughout the campaign process despite the difficult political contest.
He said structures had been put in place across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, including local government and ward coordinators who worked tirelessly during the primary.
Reflecting on his political future, Osifo said he still had many years ahead in public life and remained optimistic about future opportunities.
The businessman became the only aspirant to officially challenge Tinubu after an earlier consensus arrangement reportedly failed.
Despite his participation, reports indicated that he recorded no votes in several states, including the FCT, Delta, Kogi, Ebonyi and Jigawa. Read for story here
