Ogun Assembly invites Dangote, others over environmental concerns

Ogun House of Assembly has invited the management of Dangote Cement, the State Ministry of Special Duties and the Managing Director of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority to appear before it for an interface on environmental concerns within communities in the State.

The invitation followed separate reports by a member representing Yewa North I State Constituency, Adegoke Adeyanju and his Odogbolu counterpart, Lukman Adeleye on Thursday during a plenary at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Adeyanju had raised the concerns over the environmental degradation, traffic congestion and dangers caused by the indiscriminate parking of Dangote trucks in and around Ibese.

He added that some of the trucks even belonged to the Dangote Refinery, which is not sited in the State, and that the company management’s earlier commitment to construct a trailer park to decongest the traffic along the roads leading to the company was yet to materialise.

On his part, Adeleye raised a petition on the damage and loss of life of an eight-year-old boy recently caused by flooding at Atiba, an emerging community in his constituency.

He therefore called for preventive measures to address the issues including the construction of standard drainage to ease free flow of water during rainfall.

The Assembly subsequently scheduled Tuesday, 29th September, for an interface with the invited agencies and companies.
