Johnny Depp’s Hollywood return gets new trailer

Johnny Depp’s return to Hollywood is gathering momentum after Lionsgate released the first trailer for his upcoming action-thriller, Day Drinker, featuring Penélope Cruz and Madelyn Cline.

The film, directed by Marc Webb, marks another major step in Depp’s return to big studio productions following years away from mainstream Hollywood releases.

In Day Drinker, Depp plays a mysterious guest aboard a private yacht who becomes connected to a bartender and a criminal figure portrayed by Cruz.

According to the official synopsis, the story follows a yacht bartender who encounters Depp’s character before becoming caught up in a dangerous web involving unexpected connections.

The movie also stars Cline as the bartender, alongside Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto and Anika Boyle.

Day Drinker represents Depp’s second major-distributor film since 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Following his highly publicised defamation trial with former wife Amber Heard in 2022, Depp appeared in the French historical drama Jeanne du Barry, which opened the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, and later directed Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness.

The actor will also appear in Ebenezer, a new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, before Day Drinker arrives in cinemas.

The upcoming thriller reunites Johnny Depp and Cruz for their fourth on-screen collaboration after Blow (2001), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) and Murder on the Orient Express (2017).

Day Drinker is scheduled to hit cinemas on March 26, 2027.
