NDC Reacts As Court De-registers ADC, Other Opposition Parties

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the Federal High Court ruling that ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and several other opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Naija News reports that the party, in a statement on 𝕏, described the development as a threat to Nigeria’s democratic system and urged citizens across the country to speak against the decision.

The reaction followed a judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately remove the ADC, Accord Party and other affected political parties from participation in the 2027 elections.

Responding to the ruling, the NDC said the matter should not be viewed as affecting only the parties involved, insisting that actions taken against one opposition group could eventually affect others.

The party stated that Nigerians should unite in defending democratic values and political plurality.

It also expressed support for the affected opposition parties, maintaining that every political platform has a right to exist and participate in the democratic process as provided by law.

According to the NDC, the court order raises concerns about the future of opposition politics in the country.

The party warned against any development that could weaken political competition or reduce the number of voices available to voters during elections.

NDC said “The court order must be condemned by all and sundry. An injury to one is an injury to all.

“We stand in solidarity with these opposition parties and call on every Nigerian to resist the attempt by the rudderless APC to drift our nation into a one-party state.”
