Monaco Complete £9.5m Signing Of Ansu Fati From Barcelona

Monaco have completed the permanent signing of forward Ansu Fati from Barcelona in a deal worth around £9.5 million (€11m).

Ansu Fati, 23, has signed a four-year contract that will keep him at the Ligue 1 club until 2030, bringing his 15-year association with Barcelona to a close.

Fati returns to Monaco after a successful loan spell last season, where he rediscovered his form by scoring 12 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions.

Once regarded as Barcelona’s brightest young talent and widely tipped to succeed Lionel Messi, Fati burst onto the scene in 2019 as a 16-year-old after progressing through the club’s famed academy.

Born in Guinea-Bissau, he moved to Seville as a child before joining Barcelona’s youth system at the age of 10. He enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season, scoring eight goals for the senior side.

His rise, however, was interrupted by a serious knee injury in November 2020. Although Barcelona entrusted him with the club’s iconic No.10 shirt following Messi’s departure in 2021, recurring fitness problems prevented him from reaching the heights many had predicted.

A loan move to Premier League side Brighton in 2023 also failed to reignite his career, with injuries once again restricting his playing time.

Fati returned to Barcelona for the 2024-25 season but struggled to establish himself under Hansi Flick. He leaves the Spanish giants after scoring 29 goals in 123 appearances.
