Manchester United Appoint Michael Carrick As Permanent Head Coach

Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Michael Carrick as the club’s permanent head coach on a two-year contract after an impressive spell in interim charge.

Naija News reports that Michael Carrick, 44, stepped in following the sacking of Ruben Amorim in January and has overseen a dramatic turnaround in fortunes at Old Trafford.

United secured qualification for next season’s Champions League and are guaranteed to finish third in the Premier League after Sunday’s win over Nottingham Forest.

Carrick has won 11 of his 16 matches in charge and has also been shortlisted for the Premier League Manager of the Season award alongside five other candidates.

No side in the division has collected more points than United’s 36 since Carrick took charge on 13 January.

“From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United. Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride,” said Carrick.

“Throughout the past five months, this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here.

“Now it’s time to move forward together again, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.”

United were struggling badly when Amorim left the club, with poor results and disagreements over tactics and formation contributing to growing tension between the Portuguese coach and senior officials during the final weeks of his 14-month spell.

Carrick has earned praise for steadying the club both on and off the pitch.

The former Middlesbrough F.C. manager is no stranger to the United dugout, having previously taken temporary charge for three matches after the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021.

As a player, Carrick spent 12 years at Old Trafford, winning five Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup during a glittering career with the club.
