Late Migos rapper Takeoff’s parents fighting over the distribution of settlement funds from his wrongful death lawsuit

A dispute has emerged between the parents of late Migos rapper Takeoff over the distribution of settlement funds from a wrongful death lawsuit filed following his fatal shooting in 2022.

According to court documents, Takeoff’s mother, Titania Davenport, and his father, Kenneth Ball, are at odds over how the settlement money should be divided and which court should oversee the process.

Davenport argued that she had a close and supportive relationship with her son throughout his life, raising him as a single parent and providing nearly all of his financial support until adulthood. She said she continued to support him as he pursued a music career and later received financial assistance from him after he achieved success. According to the filing, Takeoff paid most of his mother’s living expenses and purchased a home and vehicles for her.

Davenport also claimed Ball played a limited role in the rapper’s upbringing, alleging that he provided little financial or emotional support during his son’s life. She further stated that Takeoff did not provide financial support to his father.

Ball, however, maintains that he is entitled to half of the settlement proceeds regardless of the nature of his relationship with his son. He is also seeking to have the matter resolved in Texas, where the wrongful death lawsuit was filed.

Davenport is pushing for the dispute to be handled in Georgia, where the probate case involving Takeoff’s estate is being administered. She argues that Georgia is the appropriate venue now that the Texas wrongful death case has effectively been settled. A judge has yet to rule on the matter.

Takeoff, whose real name was Kirsnick Khari Ball, was killed on November 1, 2022, at the age of 28 after being shot outside a bowling alley in the Houston area while attending a gathering with his uncle and fellow Migos member, Quavo. A man identified as Patrick Xavier Clark has been charged in connection with the rapper’s death and is expected to stand trial later this year.
