A 34-year-old man, Rabiu Mukthar, allegedly opened fire at the wedding ceremony of his neighbor in Kano State, k!lling one person and leaving four others injured.
The incident occurred at Tudun Yola Quarters of Kano metropolis, last weekend.
The suspect, who was angered by the loud music, claimed that the noise prevented him from sleeping.
Eyewitnesses said there was pandemonium as sporadic gunshots suddenly replaced the blaring music as wedding guests, well-wishers and residents scampered for safety.
In the ensuing melee, the bride and the bridegroom, as well as families and fun seekers, fled, while neighbors locked up to avoid fatalities.
The spokesman for the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the incident said the suspect, Rabiu Mukthar, emerged from his house armed with a pump-action gun and fired repeatedly into the gathering.
Kiyawa revealed that police officers responded swiftly after receiving a distress call, arresting the suspect alongside another individual and recovering the firearm used in the attack.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly told investigators that he was angered by the loud music from the wedding, claiming the organisers failed to consult neighbours and that the noise prevented him from sleeping.
The PPRO disclosed that the deceased has been deposited for burial, while the four injured victims are receiving medical treatment.
He stated that the principal suspect and his accomplice remain in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department as investigation.
