Kaduna Contractors Write Police, Dissociate Selves from Alleged N30bn Unpaid Debt Protest

The Contractors Association of Kaduna State, which described itself as the major umbrella body for contractors in the state, has dissociated itself from the protest staged last week by some individuals over the alleged non-payment of a N30 billion contract reportedly awarded to and executed by Formal Act Legacy Limited, Kaduna.

The association, in a letter dated May 6, 2026, signed by its Executive Chairman, Engr. Ahmed Baba, and made available to newsmen, insisted that it neither participated in nor authorised the protest, let alone supported it.

According to the letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, the association stated that the actions of the individuals involved in the protest did not represent its official position.

“The attention of the Contractors Association of Kaduna State has been drawn to a protest staged last week by a few individuals claiming non-payment of a N30 billion contract allegedly awarded to and executed by Formal Act Legacy Limited, Kaduna,” the letter stated.

It added: “The Association was not part of, did not authorise, and does not support the said protest. The actions of those individuals do not represent the official position of the Contractors Association of Kaduna State.”

The association further noted that it is the recognised umbrella body for all contractors — indigenous, non-indigenous, and foreign — operating in Kaduna State.

“All decisions, especially on matters of this magnitude, are taken collectively at duly convened meetings with proper notice to all members. No such meeting was held, and no resolution was passed authorising the protest,” it added.

The association dissociated itself entirely from what it described as the illegal actions and decisions of the protesters, stressing that it upholds due process, dialogue, and lawful engagement with clients, government, and stakeholders in resolving disputes.

It also disclosed that members who participated in the unauthorised protest had been sanctioned in line with the constitution and code of conduct of the association.

“The general public, relevant government agencies, and all stakeholders are hereby notified that the Contractors Association of Kaduna State had no involvement in the protest and condemns any attempt to use the name of the Association to promote personal interests.

“We remain committed to transparency, professionalism, and the protection of the collective interests of all contractors,” the letter stated.

Copies of the letter were also sent to the Governor of Kaduna State, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The letter was titled: “Letter of Exoneration Re: Protest by Certain Contractors Over Alleged Unpaid N30 Billion Contract Awarded to and Executed by Formal Act Legacy Limited, Kaduna.”
