Democracy Must Thrive in Nasarawa — Giza Declares for Governor on ZLP Platform

A frontline governorship aspirant in Nasarawa State, Abubakar Giza, has officially obtained the nomination forms of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) ahead of the 2027 governorship election, declaring that democracy must be allowed to thrive in the state and across the country.

Giza made the declaration on Thursday at the party secretariat in Lafia during a gathering attended by party supporters, stakeholders, and loyalists, where he formally unveiled his ambition to govern Nasarawa State on the platform of the ZLP.

The governorship hopeful said his decision to join the party was driven by its commitment to justice, equity, unity, and inclusive development, describing the ZLP as a platform determined to place the people first.

According to him, unlike many political parties currently battling internal crises and court cases, the Zenith Labour Party has remained peaceful, united, and focused on national development.

“Unlike other political parties with a series of litigations in courts and factional crises, the Zenith Labour Party has distinguished itself by remaining united and free from such challenges,” he said.

Giza stressed that democracy can only flourish in an atmosphere of fairness, stability, and collective participation, insisting that leadership should be based on competence and credibility rather than zoning arrangements.

He accused the ruling political establishment of placing zoning above merit, warning that such an approach could undermine good governance and deny the people quality leadership.

The aspirant promised that, if elected governor, his administration would focus on economic revitalisation, youth empowerment, and job creation to tackle poverty and insecurity in the state.

Also speaking, the state chairman of the party, Cletus Ogah, expressed confidence in Giza’s ambition, noting that the party remains open to all Nigerians willing to contribute positively to nation-building.

Ogah further disclosed that aspirants between the ages of 25 and 29 would obtain the party’s interest forms free of charge as part of efforts to encourage youth participation in politics.
