The lawmaker representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, Garba Maidoki, has revealed that persistent insecurity in his constituency was the sole motivation behind his decision to enter politics.
Maidoki, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress to the African Democratic Congress following internal divisions within the ruling party over the Kebbi State primaries, made the disclosure during a television interview on Tuesday.
He said he had no personal ambition for political office but was compelled to act after years of security challenges at the community level left residents with no choice but to seek representation at the legislative level.
“The only reason I joined politics is because of the insecurity in my area. I have no interest in doing politics. We have done everything we can to protect ourselves at the community level.
Then it dawned on us that if we use our ballot papers wisely, it is better than using our bullets,” he said.
