The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, publicly criticized an acting director during a project flag-off event in Abuja, accusing some senior officials of failing to attend important government activities.
In a video shared by Channels TV, Wike expressed disappointment that several directors were absent from the event and specifically questioned the absence of the Acting Director of Development Control. He directed the Acting Head of Service to pass a message to the official, warning that his performance and commitment to duty would be closely monitored.
The minister stressed that officials holding acting positions must take their responsibilities seriously if they hope to be confirmed in their roles. He also warned against any attempt to use workers’ unions or strikes as a means of avoiding accountability.
Wike further instructed development control authorities to intensify action against illegal developments across the FCT. According to him, buildings constructed on land that was not properly allocated should be demolished.
