I Was Told Not to Go to The Shrine,Fela Ordered Boys to Beat Me,Over 23 Guys, I Almost Died-Hamilton

Keji Hamilton, a former instrumentalist who performed with legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, has recounted how he was allegedly attacked by more than 23 people after disobeying a warning not to visit Fela’s Shrine….....
Speaking during an interview on Nevon HQ, Hamilton said the incident happened after he took some of Fela’s money to buy drugs and later disappeared. According to him, he eventually returned to the Shrine after running out of money and looking for a place where he could smoke.

Hamilton said that upon arriving in Ikeja, some people warned him not to proceed to the Shrine because Fela had allegedly instructed others to beat him.

However, believing that those at the Shrine were familiar with him and would not carry out such an attack, he ignored the warning and continued.

He claimed that shortly after arriving, he was brutally assaulted by a large group of people. Hamilton said the attack began when someone struck him in the face with a wooden bench while he was waiting to smoke.

According to Hamilton, more than 23 people took part in the attack, leaving him badly injured. He said he nearly lost his life and credited the police with rescuing him from the situation.

In his words, “They said don’t go to the shrine, I said, ‘Why?’ They said Fela has ordered the boys to beat you up. And I said they are all my boys, they can’t beat me. And I went ahead, and that day I was given the beating of my life, I almost died. It was the police who saved me. They beat me, over 23 guys.”
